Greetings members! sorry this is going out late, i usually like to have this out by Sunday but its been a hectic start to the week preparing for the school year and this Thursday both my kids will be getting dropped off at school before CSA deliveries go out. Plenty of delicious cherry tomatoes for this weeks shares and the peppers are later than normal so we are going to get those green peppers out this week. One of my favorite peppers dishes is stuffed peppers so maybe that can make the family meal list this week. We had a lot of rain this weekend and it slowed my progress trying to get this large tree stump out from the greenhouse building site…. as soon as it dries a bit i’m going to get back at it and build this greenhouse before winter for sure…. the materials for the new pack shed were ordered this week also. Only a few weeks until this project starts to take shape which is very exciting for me considering how many years i’ve worked with inadequate facilities. I hope you all enjoy the late summer fruits while they are here, it will only be a few short weeks until we are tearing out the tomato vines from the greenhouses.
Kale- Curly Kale is back this week. I really like a nice kale salad and there are so many ways to make it. Find a recipe that suits your fancy and enjoy a nutritionally dense salad.
Cherry tomatoes – So many cherry tomatoes coming in still and they taste just as good as the first week and almost as large. Plenty to go around as these have been keeping us busy in the greenhouse picking as fast as we can bring them in so we will be giving double to every share and large shares will get extra on top of that again this week.
Heirloom tomato, these slicing size tomatoes are slowing down more now in most types and getting down there on varieties and quantity available but we should have enough to go through the end of the season on tomatoes for you all.
Shishito peppers: These chile peppers have great flavor when you roast or blister them in a saute pan with a little oil.
Green peppers- The peppers we grow are varieties i’ve found to be reliable over the years and includes red and yellow Italian frying peppers, and orange and yellow and red bell peppers and possibly a few green peppers too. We will provide just green peppers this week though as they are ripening very slow this year due to the cool August
Jalapeno- Just the right amount of spicy to add to your favorites dishes. Carefully remove the seeds to make even less mild but the oils can be hot so do keep that in mind before handling them. (https://ausoma.org)
Garlic- Our garlic is on point with great flavor this season, it really pairs well with anything you can dream up in the kitchen
Basil: Fresh Basil for your stir fries or to go with your tomatoes.
Pablano chile pepper: These chilies are so good, I made them with chicken breast for a pulled chicken and poblano taco this week… they are really good stuffed too with rice and beef or whatever you can dream up for a southwestern style stuffed chile pepper.
Week 15 is the second to last drop for bi weekly members and three weeks remain after this week in general just to give everyone a heads up on the end of the CSA season approaching. Taking on these two building projects at once at the end of this year will be exciting and challenging but i’m hopeful that I will come out next spring with some renewed energy from the expanded production facilities that will make life just little easier. Thank you all for being CSA members and I’ll be seeing lots of you at the drop sites otherwise enjoy the veggies and talk soon! -Kyle
