Hello CSA members!
We are all the way to week seventeen this week! This is the last week for bi-weekly members! Full season Basic and Standard Members will have one more week of shares, and market CSA members will be able to use their balance up until the last market we attend which is different for each market. E Side Market will go until the end of October but I may take a week off before then depending on the weather, while Dane County goes outdoors until November 13th before moving indoors for winter market. I really hope everyone enjoyed the season and all the veggies! Thank you to all the bi-weekly share members for being a part of the farm this year. I hope you enjoyed the fruits of our labor and to see you back again next year. Members will be able to sign up for the next season anytime after I update the site and this one ends which will be very soon but most people sign up between January and April although I always encourage early sign ups. I will be in touch by email to let everyone know when the site is ready to take sign ups for next season. We’ve got some good food for you for the week including late summer peppers so here is this weeks crop list.
Cherry tomatoes: Plenty of cherry tomatoes coming in yet so enjoy them while the warm weather is still here.
Yellow Carrots: The last of our carrots for the year. I would say we had an excellent carrot year with so many weeks of receiving lbs that everyone got around 15 lbs of carrots this year.
Torpedo Onions: Often mistaken for shallots on our market table these are great raw or cooked and could probably sub for shallots with their great flavor.
Garlic: It wasn’t our best garlic year for sure but the drought this year was very tough to deal with and resulted in some smaller garlic for us. I’ll be investing in more seed garlic for the first time in a decade to help recover from it and have a good garlic year next season.
Green Peppers: The sweet peppers are just not producing fast enough for us so these non certified organic peppers will be picked green and in shares this week. Next year they will be organic again also it’s just a transition year for part of one of our fields.
Curly Kale: Protein packed greens for smoothies, kale chips, stir fry, and more we may include red or green kale this week.
Heirloom Tomatoes: These babies are still going and we will be giving out as many as possible over the last few weeks.
Thats everything for this week folks, if we have enough we may add summer squash or some other types of chile peppers or extra garlic for the last week of bi-weekly shares. Thank you again to all bi-weekly CSA Members. I hope you enjoyed the season and the crops and have some healthy dinners at home with your families! Full season members i’ll see you this week and next! -Kyle
