This week we are going to try and get microgreens going again for shares next week and start some fall crops in the field by cleaning up more so we can hopefully do some seeding. Sweet peppers are coming in slowly but still taking their sweet time π last year at this time we were preparing for the build out of a new greenhouse and pack shed. This year is just about plugging along to help pay for those things over the next few years while giving you the best variety we can for the rest of the season. I am also required to tell you that the peppers out of field b-2 are not considered certified organic also, don’t worry that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with them we are just in the process of recertifying one area which is in transition and will be organic again next april. some of the early salad greens out of this field were also not considered organic but we didn’t use any non organic products to grow them. This week we have some new items to help do that … Here is this weeks crop list.
Radish Microgreens: You will receive either regular radish or purple radish micro greens. These taste just like a fresh radish and will hold about a week in the fridge but use sooner for best results.
Long of Tropea red onion: These red onions are delicious raw or cooked with thin rings and great flavor. They have been drying in the sun so no need to refrigerate them just keep them on the counter or somewhere with some air flow with the tops cut off to continue drying or store them for a bit.
Cherry Tomatoes: These are still just as juicy and sweet as the first week they started coming in. The plants look healthy but they are also slowing down some at the moment although i expect more flushes coming soon so we shall see how they keep performing. They’ve been keeping us busy lately with over 700 pints picked in the last week so expect lots of these tasty gems. We will give you all as many as we can muster..
Jalapeno pepper: just a little extra spice for your life.
Sweet Pepper: Peppers are here for your enjoyment but not many coming in yet. I usually like to wait for these to turn color but some may be half turned they are still just as tasty that way.
Summer Squash: will be in shares again this week. Enjoy them while you can cause they will be done soon.
Yellow Carrots: These are still coming in and sizing up, another week of carrots for you all to enjoy! A big improvement after a crop failure last year.
Eggplant: should be enough for a little to go with your other summer items. Great for pizza, pasta, ratatouille, and more!
Curly Kale: We’ve gone ahead and added kale this week to round out the shares. Great for kale soup, chips, or salad.
Thats all the crops from this mid summer August week folks. Enjoy all the summer fruits, microgreens, and see a lot of you at the dropsites soon. Thank you, be healthy, and enjoy! -Kyle
