What’s going on at the farm: We have reached week 19 which is the last week for Bi-Weekly members in their 10 week delivery period. Thanks to everyone who joined us for a 1/2 season this year. Hopefully you got enjoyment and value out of your share with us and will stick with us for another season of fresh organic veggies in 2013! Full season members you still have two weeks remaining after this week as we head towards the last and final week which is week 21. For Tue. folks this is Oct. 9th and for Thur. folks it is Oct. 11th.
Frost warnings are rolling in and we are hitting the low 30’s at night here lately. Cherry tomatoes are done producing and we cut down trellising twine in the fields and picked some of the last peppers and eggplant of the year. Our greenhouse got some touch-ups this week as well installing vents, and framing for exhaust fans and we also insulated the paneling with weather stripping for winter. We also pulled out more mulch and drip lines from the fields and of course mowing lots of weeds. There is still lot’s more to do as we prepare for frost and the coming winter. For those who are not familiar broccoli raab is a good saute green which is sweet and a little mustard like in it’s taste but gets sweeter and milder when it is lightly sauteed. It should be noted though that arugula and raab can both be used as either salad or saute greens. Thanks and enjoy!
