What’s in the Box: Heirloom tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, mixed cherry tomatoes (red, orange, yellow, white, black), savoy cabbage, garlic, summer squash and zucchini, sweet yellow onions, eggplant, sage, and cucumber.
What’s going on at the farm: Holy tomatoes! They are pouring in now and plenty of these perfect peak of summer fruits coming your way this week. Although the weather lately has been very comfortable it has also been unseasonable and cool which has slowed down ripening of some of our summer crops like cherry tomatoes, melons, eggplant, and red peppers. Lot’s more of these crops will be coming later on but the weather may affect our yields on cherry tomato and eggplant currently. This last week there was plenty of mowing, harvesting and weeding going on as normal. We will be topping all our cured summer onions this week to make room for harvest of our fall onions in the next week or so. Shallots will be harvested soon as well and we have some very nice red cabbage and leeks coming soon too. Hopefully we get some warmer weather for our melons, cherry tomatoes, and peppers soon although it seems the trend has been cool all year so far and I don’t really expect that to change. Got the tractor fixed this week and caught up on mowing so now we can focus on turning over all unused space from earlier crops this week and plant plenty of fall crops including spinach, turnips and much more. This cool weather is great for working long days so that is the plan over the next couple weeks as we prepare for the later part of the season and planting plenty of fall greens and roots. Enjoy!
