Hello CSA members!
This is the last week for the 2022 CSA season. It’s always a mix of feelings for me because it’s been so much work putting so much thought, heart, time and energy into it every day since February. There is still much to do at the farm over the next few months but less hours will definitely be welcome because pushing so hard all season takes a toll on the body. So as the days shorten and nights cool, and things grow slower now I will pace myself as much as possible through building the new greenhouse, and the new washing and packing and storage barn going up. Also through fall cleanup and do some every day along with the harvesting and markets continuing through October and even Mid November for the outdoor portion of Dane County Farmers Market. If you all need any veggies come see me at the market stands! Market share members can still use their market shares through the end of the market season until new years including at the indoor DCFM at the Monona Terrace before we move to Garver Feed Mill. Soon I will update the website to add sign up for next season and I will let you all know when that is ready. Besides the clean up of the fields there will be some major work going on for structures going up to transform the farm by spring into an even more productive small farm for the future. This last week of CSA I will be packing as much as I possibly can for you despite the fact I have no help this week because of some planned breaks and unplanned sickness with employees but i’m gonna do the best I can to give as much as possible within reason for these last shares of 2022. Thank you all so much for being CSA members, I am grateful for your patronage and to be able to grow you and your families healthy food to nourish you in an environmentally friendly way! Here are this weeks crops.
Heirloom Tomatoes: Our tomatoes are still going fairly strong and we have slicers right up to the end for you this year, thats like 8 weeks of tomatoes this year! They are definitely our best selling crop and people return to the stand every week to score these babies.
Cherry Tomatoes: These are going strong thanks to the new greenhouse I finished a couple years ago now. In the past our outdoor cherry tomatoes would pitter out in early August usually to disease or end up tasting watered down so this give us up to two extra months of cherry tomatoes to enjoy and much better quality!
Green Pepper: Green Bell peppers are good with just about anything.
Kale: The green that keeps on giving this year, our curly kale is packed with protein and great fried or baked into kale chips or sautéed in stir fries or pasta dishes.
Garlic: Our garlic is savory and well cured and good for fighting bad cholesterol and seasonal colds.
Ají Rico Chile: These little red chilies are fruity and not very hot for a hot pepper, they are hotter raw but when cooked they add wonderful flavor to any dish and the heat seems to dissipate when cooked.
Sweet Peppers: A mix of red and orange Italian frying peppers will be in the shares this week.
CBD Oil: One 500mg bottle of cbd oil per share will go out as a thank you this week to members. Only two ingredients in our oil which are MCT coconut oil and our own organic hemp extract. This concentration is fairly light and can be used for pets also.
Thank you again for being CSA members this season! It’s been a pleasure to grow for you and feels great to feed the community and have you all as part of it and i’m thankful for you all! We had a great season and I hope you all enjoyed everything. Thanks again and I’ll let you all know when the next season sign up is open. -Kyle
