What’s in the Box: Cabbage(savoy), summer squash and zucchini (assorted types), fennel, kale, green garlic, cucumber, green top sweet onion, filet beans.
What’s going on at the farm: Its starting to feel like true summer weather this week as the humidity and temps have picked up. We found the first ripe cherry tomatoes this week and all of the summer crops are starting to take off. We pulled a lot of weeds this past week in the strawberry field to clean it up and keep it weed free for next season. Our peppers got some weeding as well and there was plenty of mowing going on near field buffers to control weeds close to the fields. Ground cherries, mustard greens, and some specialty melons also got planted this week and we are aiming to plant napa cabbage, fall carrots, and some other crops into the field shortly. Cucumbers are starting to produce heavier and will make the shares this week for sure. Summer squash and zucchini are producing heavily too. Peas are out and beans are in this week! We have some excellent filet type green beans which are long, seedless, and stringless. This next week we are going to be working on pruning and clipping the greenhouse tomatoes again and picking beans squash and cukes every other day heavily. We are about a week away from harvesting garlic for curing and it looks like a week or two away from cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Our onions this week are baby yellow sweet onions with tops. Our onion crop is looking great right now and we should have some big summer onions coming next week.
