What’s in the Box: Strawberries, broccoli, kale , green garlic, chioggia (kee-oh-jah) beets, sugar snap peas, zucchini and/or summer squash, salad mix.
What’s going on at the farm: Things are heating up on the farm as we head into summer and along with it received some heavy storms and rain. Over the last week we have received nearly 6 inches of precipitation. Strawberries are passing their peak this week but we are still picking them for hours on end. Snap peas have come in and some other new crops too including some beautiful and tasty broccoli. There are still plenty of weeds to pull, tomatoes to trellis, and planting to be done. Sugar snap peas are eaten whole pod and all. The zucchini and summer squash may be green, striped, yellow, or patty pan squash. They are all prepared the same way you would use a zucchini. The green garlic has a hard center to it but you can use the bulb all around the core, unfortunately the neck is not good for much. Some new crops we will have coming in soon include savoy and green cabbages, fennel, onions, green beans, cucumbers, zucchini patty pan squash, and basil. Enjoy all the early summer goodies and we’ll keep busy trying to keep up with everything out here! Thanks everyone.
