What’s Going on at the Farm:
This last week on the farm we filled up a second hoop house with cantaloupe plants and did a lot of weeding, we also got in more peppers, eggplant, and some other specialty melons. Our strawberries and peas are flowering and garlic is beginning to scape along with broccoli heads forming. We are also getting our first zucchini in the field so I expect those crops should be available for CSA in the near future along with the first cabbage and kohlrabi. The green garlic is the whole garlic plant harvested early while the scapes are the flowering head of a hard neck garlic. Both can be used just like garlic by simply mincing the stalks up and sauteing them like you would garlic. They both add great flavor to sauteed greens and other things. We have our organic inspection coming up this week as well. In other weather related issues it is HOT out there and very dry lately so watering is a real challenge right now as well. The heat should break by Thursday and hopefully we will get a nice heavy rain sometime before or around then.
