Thank you to everyone who filled out our survey a few weeks back. The information gathered was not only useful for the final report for our grant, it has proven useful to us in other ways. We got many suggestions that we should try and get our news letter out as early as possible so that our members can plan their meals for the week. We are happy to try and do this but please keep in mind that it will be a best guess only. The list may change when we go to harvest. Thanks again for the great feedback!

What’s Going on at the Farm:
This week on the farm is another smoking hot one. With the humidity these days can drain a person quickly. At this point we are working more hours than ever keeping up with the crops as well. Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash are harvested every other day and the flies, mosquitoes and insects of all types including the beloved tomato hornworm are hitting their peak density around this time of year as well. Late blight has been found on tomatoes in Wisconsin and although spraying copper is an effective protective solution we will not be spraying our tomatoes with copper at all. hopefully we do not get the virus here or it is a type which is not super aggressive towards tomato. There are over twenty known races of this devastating tomato disease which has begun to become all to familiar to the Midwest. This week we are weeding crops and pulling mulch beds out where other crops were. Also, you guessed it, more weeding! Still working on opening up some space for more late seeded crops as well. As we head into August you can expect to see lots of heirloom tomato coming your way (fingers crossed). Also other new crops that will be coming soon are green beans, green peppers, sweet and hot peppers, melons, onions of several types, red cabbage and leeks. Stay cool out there and happy eating!
