Hey everyone we are to the last share of August and into the last half month of CSA this week. Still 3 weeks remain for the every week members but only one week remains for biweekly members on week 17 after this week. On the farm i’ve been busy growing microgreens and harvesting tomatoes every other day for consistency… I plowed in a lot of weeds and still trying to get things planted as we have gotten lot of rain lately. My daughters moved out for college this week which is bittersweet and i’ll meet with my doctor to make a plant to repair my broken collarbone so I can have a better year next year for my 20th anniversary year of farming! Its not been an easy year but we’ve managed to stay consistent and provide over market value every week for all you shareholders! We have a new crop of peppers and celery this week i think you will all enjoy. Here is the rundown for the fifteenth week of shares!
Italian Frying Peppers: These sweet red peppers are the Italian type extra sweet and good even half red in anything you like, these really go good with anything and are good cooked or raw.
Asian Eggplant: These asiatic type eggplants are less seedy and very tasty
Cherry Tomatoes: Our cherry tomato blend has many types which are still holding well in the late season humidity
Tomato: Still a few slicers to be had everyone will a get a few tomatoes but they are slowing down quite a bit now.
Micro Radish Greens: These spicy greens will be our micro this week, great on everything but I really like them for tacos or salads of any kind on top of potato or chicken salad is amazing.
Garlic: Still a bit of garlic left although the bulbs I have are smaller so not as many large ones as we gave out the last month or so but equally as tasty
Serrano Chile Pepper: These spicy peppers are great for little kick in your dishes.
Celery: Our first week with Celery this year it has been a favorite at market but its very large and may break due to bending in the box but will do our best to get it to you intact. You can use the greens as a sauté green or juice them and the stalks are amazing for kung pao or any type of stir fry, soup, or even salads.
That is it for week 15 ladies and gentlemen, I will see some of you around and we have 3 weeks left after this week until the end of the CSA season! I’m all ready planning for next year and I have my surgery on the schedule as of today for late September, its a little scary not knowing how much i’ll be able to work for three months after but should be worth it in the long run. Thank you all for being CSA members I really appreciate you all and enjoy your flavorful home cooked meals this Labor Day week.
