Hello CSA Members! This is going out a little late but its going to be an amazing week of veggies!!! i’ve been so busy working on all these tasty crops there’s been little time to write. my hands are a aching from moving fast through harvest after harvest in the heat and weeds upon weeds! This week we are passing summer solstice and enjoying the fourth of July I just hope it cools down a tad! I hope these veggies were harvesting tomorrow for you all will fill a lot of happy plates this holiday week! I’m also hosting a farm tour this week for a farming group and doing a bit of educating on how we do things here. Also mowing in the peas and weeding the garlic and zucchini patch. This week I have the following crops for you all including:
Zucchini. A not too large zucchini, we pick them this way cause they just taste better imo when they are small and dense.
Purple Snow Peas: This will be the last week of these, i made them in a chicken stir fry twice this week with zucchini and couple carrots and rice and onion.
Curly Kale: A backbone of our greens supply its great for kale chips with its extra curly texture.
Microgreens: Everyone will get at least one container of smaller micro mix, broccoli, or radish greens.
Cherry Tomatoes: Cherry tomatoes are In and they are tasty, a box for everybody should be doable this week with the warm temps picking up the ripening and the heat in the tunnels.
Red Carrots: These deep red carrots have an amazing flavor and deep red color throughout, its a new variety for me this year and hope you enjoy them.
Scallions: These sweet green onions with small white bulbs are great raw in salad stir fry or maybe cream cheese and salmon.
Fennel: this bulbing vegetable is savory and great roasted or in italian food or thinly sliced for raw salad use with some fruit like melon, or oranges. The anise flavor is less pronounced when cooked i think.
Happy Holiday week to everyone as we head into summer i’ll be attempting to keep up with the weeds and the harvests and the trellising and pruning and microgreens production! Have fun and enjoy the fresh veggies, thanks all! -Kyle
