Welcome to week eight everyone! Second half season payments will be sent out in the next week so be on the lookout for that email if you have a split payment plan as those will be due very shortly. Fourth of July came and went on the farm as just more work and I worked every day all day through the holiday providing food for locals through the heat and humidity.. somehow the rain all missed the farm again so we are still very dry but I planted some green beans saturday after market and will be planting more this week for late summer and fall. Prepare your plates in the meantime as we have some tasty crops for you this week!
Swiss Chard: This bunching green has multi colored stems including white, red, and pink striped! You can eat the steam and leaf but the greens are the best and usually sautéed like spinach.
Carrots: Our carrots are ready and boy are they delicious. Very sweet and dense they will come with tops on which can be used for a carrot top pesto or simply removed and disarded. we have red, purple, orange, and yellow carrots this year probably will be giving out red again this week as they are maturing the fastest but I may do orange also as that’s probably the favorite.
Zucchini: zucchini has so many uses and we don’t let these get too big so enjoy them on pizza or for fun zucchini fries are great to if you bread them and fry them up like tempura. They also make a great gluten free noodle if you have a spiralizer at home or slice them in long flat slices for lasagna noodles.
Cherry Tomatoes: This multi colored mix of cherry tomatoes is great for salads, snacking, kabobs, and more.
Pea Shoots: This sweet and fresh summer green is great for salads, sandwiches, pasta, stir fry, and more….
Fennel: This anise flavored bulbing veggie is great sautéed and served on flatbread with sliced zucchini and mozzarella. traditional to italian cooking its great in all italian style foods.
Scallions: These mild green onions are sweet raw and good on anything you create in the kitchen
That all the crops that will make it for sure this week. I hope it fuels some fun summer days and everyone is having a good holiday week and enjoying summer. We will have larger tomatoes soon and garlic coming in. Thanks again for being CSA members and enjoy the fruits of our labor! -Kyle and the crew
