Welcome to week eight everyone! We are getting a nice early tomato crop which is weeks earlier than last year and tasting amazing. This week on the farm I finished mulching the new strawberry field beds and got it free of all weeds! We also got the old field cleaned up and we will hopefully be digging all of our garlic this week. Second half season payments will be sent out in the next week so be on the lookout for that email if you have a split payment plan as those will be due very shortly. Prepare your plates and cookbooks!
Curly Kale: This variety of kale has quickly become my favorite on the farm and has great texture and flavor. Massage it with oil a little for a salad or bake it in the oven for some healthy but tasty kale chips.
Carrots: Our carrots are ready and boy are they delicious. Very sweet and dense they will come with tops on which can be used for a carrot top pesto or simply removed and disarded.
Summer Squash and zucchini: These golden yellow fruits are my favorite to grill or roast with the zucchini in spears and marinated in soy or terriyaki sauce with a little chili powder or sauce. zucchini fries are great to if you bread them and fry them up like tempura. They also make a great gluten free noodle if you have a spiralizer at home or slice them in long flat slices for lasagna noodles.
Cherry Tomatoes: Our cherry tomatoes are coming in! Need I say more?
Kohlrabi: This will be our last week with this crunchy bulb for the summer, enjoy it raw or cooked with carrots and squash.
Slicing Tomato: A Random selection of slicer for sandwiches, burgers, bLts, and tomato sandwiches, and tarts.
Pea Shoots: This sweet and fresh summer green is great for salads, sandwiches, pasta, stir fry, and more….
That all the crops that will make it for sure this week. I hope it fuels some fun summer days and everyone is having a good holiday week and enjoying summer. I may add cucumbers into the mix if we have enough this week also. Thanks again for being CSA members and enjoy the fruits of our labor! -Kyle and the crew
