Hello CSA Members!
Week nine marks the middle of the CSA season for all of us. I will be sending an email with second payment instructions to those of you who split your payments. We are still battling the weeds this week of course also and working hard to harvest all the vegetables. My daughter had her 17th birthday this week. I still can’t believe its been 18 years farming here that fast! We got some good rain this week which is important heading into the heat of late July and August. Hopefully we will still get some rains through the next few months. This week we have zucchini and squash crops and some more of the first early tomato crop coming in among other things…we harvested a little over half our garlic this week and will be pulling the rest this coming week. We will also be getting the fields prepared for some fall plantings! here is the list for the week!
Cherry tomatoes: Our cherry tomatoes are some of the best around and very firm and sweet with a blend of orange, yellow, grape, pink, white, and red fruits. I like making mini caprese with these using the small mozzarella balls and cherry tomato and some basil on a toothpick makes a great snack any time of day or a great appetizer for get togethers and cookouts.
Heirloom Tomato: these slicers are sure to please for caprese salads and blts!
Kohlrabi: This will be the last week for these cabbage apples, enjoy them sliced with some smoky cheese for great flavor contrast.
Carrots: Our carrots this week will be our yellow variety! I love the color of these vibrant carrots.
Cucumber. Fresh crispy fruit for salad with your tomato or just a refreshing snack. Its not an amazing cucumber year for us so far but the fruit we are getting is tasty.
Zucchini: green zucchini is great in baking and cooked on the grill or even sautéed
Summer Squash: Just like the zucchini these are really hitting a peak this week with lots of beautiful fruits.
Micro Greens: Pea Shoots will be in shares this week for tasty summer greens that have a vitamin packed nutritional content.
Red Torpedo Onions: These tasty red onions will be delivered bunched fresh with tops trimmed back, you can use the tops also if you feel so inclined but these sweet red onions are our favorite summer onion since I started the farm we’ve grown them every year!
Serrano Chile: Just a chile or two to spice up those stir fries or fresh salsa
Thats our 8 crops for this week! If we have time we will add collard greens also. More crops that will be coming in soon include, celery, yellow carrots, red torpedo onions, eggplant, slicing tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes and lots of different peppers before too long. Thank you again to everyone for being a part of it all and see you soon. -Kyle
