What’s in the Box: Heirloom slicing tomato (variety), rainbow cherry tomatoes(orange, red, yellow, white, black), cabbage(savoy), garlic, summer squash and zucchini (assorted types), long of tropea green top red onion, eggplant, and kale.
What’s going on at the farm: We got almost a third inch of rain this week which was great. Conditions remain dry way below seasonal norms though so let’s hope for more. Irrigation has and will be running constantly. Lot’s of mowing and weedwacking in the fields this week. Our green bean crop is looking good and we should be up to our ears picking beans very soon. All the garlic was topped and is curing rapidly in the hot weather and coming from a very dry soil. German extra hardy is the type you will get this week which has nice large cloves and is a porcelain hard neck garlic. We had our annual organic inspection this week as well and took time to reflect on records, farm management and such. Our heirloom tomatoes are a random variety when it comes to packing boxes we believe random selection is the best way to pack them. Some of the varieties you will receive include brandywine(pink), rose(pink), prudens purple (dark pink), Paul Robeson(black), virginia sweets (yellow and red striped), lemon boy(yellow), green zebra(green and yellow), Giant Belgium(red), big beef(round hybrid red), persimmon(large light orange), and juanne flamme (small round orange). Hope this helps you identify your tomatoes and we will try to get some veggie ID stuff up for them as well.
