What’s in the Box: Leek, carrot, basil, rainbow cherry tomatoes(variety), heirloom slicing tomato, garlic, yellow storage onion, eggplant, green and purple bell pepper, red pepper, jalapeno pepper, celery (bi-weekly only), and kale.
What’s going on at the farm: We had our annual potluck this week and it was a great time. Much good food, people, and even got in a little soccer game with the family and the weather was just perfect. Basil this week will consist of a whole basil plant so if you ever thought about making pesto, now is the time. Pesto can be frozen as well for a tasty winter treat and can easily be prepared in a food processor with olive oil, pine or walnuts, garlic and some finely grated italian cheese. Leeks and carrots are new this week and salad greens are coming back soon. A few other crops coming soon include tomatillo and red potatoes. All the summer onions are gone now as well and the onions you will receive for the remainder of the year are excellent storage onions. Keep them in a cool dark place and they will last until February easily. I keep them in a brown paper bag in the pantry.
