Hello CSA Members!
June and summer is here shortly as we finish up the last few weeks of spring with some great produce for you! We’ve got a great crop mix this week for you despite the cool and fairly dry spring. Strawberries are still waiting for some heat to develop and ripen, not seeing the crop we worked so hard for perform is a bit frustrating for me but looks like the weather will finally warm up into the 80s this week and stay there. That should help the tomatoes, and strawberries and zucchini grow faster. This week we are doing a lot of weeding and plowing in weeds and doing some more planting and doing our weekly batch of microgreens and much more harvesting washing and delivering the food for you all. This week farm pick up members should come late because they are paving my road today and i don’t think you will be able to get in at 3. I would plan on coming later around dusk or if need be tomorrow am is also fine. Not sure when they will finish and just hoping I will be able to get out of my driveway and get to market.
Radish Microgreens: These spicy micros taste just like a fresh radish but with more nutrition! great on sandwiches, tacos, salad, and really good with chicken salad, egg salad, and potato salad also.
Pea shoots: Sweet and mild with the flavor of a snap pea these are great on sandwiches in salads and on top of asian bowls or stir fries.
Butter Lettuce: These heads will pair well with just about anything as a crunchy salad, or use them for wraps like a chicken wrap or sandwich wrap.
Kohlrabi: A member of the brassica family, the kohlrabi is basically a cabbage apple as defined by its germanic roots in its name. Its crispy sweet and great raw for a snack, cooked, or grated for slaw or salads. The bulb is the best part and only needs to be peeled and remove the greens.. the greens can be used for cooking but are more like collard greens.
Green onions: These tasty scallions can be used anywhere, don’t overcook them, you can use them raw or add them near the end of a stir fry for some great flavor.
Swiss chard: A member of the beet family these greens are a great substitute for spinach with a slightly more earthy mineral flavor that is great in pasta dishes or anywhere you would use spinach like in scrambled eggs or with some feta cheese.
Thanks everyone and enjoy the early summer crops! There is just not enough time in a day even with these longest days of the year coming up right now. I have been working all day every day to keep up but that’s the norm for me. I hope you all eat well from the crops I’ve provided this week and be well! -Kyle
