This week we are going to get microgreens going again for shares next week and start some fall crops in the field by cleaning up more so we can hopefully do some more fall seeding for our late season shares and markets. I’ve been planting weekly and going to keep it going all fall for successive harvests of organic greens, roots, and more. Its hard to believe that summer is nearly over as we head into the last month of CSA. We’ve got a nice summer selection for you all this week so here is this weeks crop list.
Microgreens: You will receive pea shoots this week! These are the classic Microgreens for salads and anything you would like to top with some fresh greens that have way more nutritional value than any lettuces.
Garlic: Our garlic is dried and can store at room temp now for months, so many uses for garlic i’m sure you can all find some great dishes to use it in!
Cherry Tomatoes: These are still just as juicy and sweet as the first week they started coming in. The plants look healthy but they are also slowing down some at the moment. We will give you all as many as we can but not as many of them as earlier in the summer now.
Serrano pepper: just a little extra spice for your dishes with good green chile flavor i use them minced up in almost any dish.
Tomato: Our slicing tomatoes have slowed down but we have some for you all
Carrots: Yellow carrots are still flowing and we have a few hundred pounds left but we finally got them all dug out of the ground this last week! It has been my best carrot year ever this year so far and we aren’t don’t yet I may plant some for the winter greenhouse! They are not easy to grow so enjoy these tasty crunchy roots as they are so much better fresh than the stored ones from the store.
Eggplant: This summer fruit is so tender it does not store well compared to the larger eggplants but they are very good tasting with little to no seed in the fruit making for great pasta dishes or stir fries!
Collard Greens: These got a little chewed up by bugs but the best way to cook them is to mince them up into thin ribbons also so we wash them once, you can rinse again and slice thinly and cook down with pork slowly or vegetarian fats like oil for best results.
Thats all the crops from this mid summer August week folks. Enjoy all the summer crops, fruits, microgreens, and see a lot of you at the dropsites soon. Thank you, enjoy the fresh food to help you be healthy, and enjoy the the end of summer before school is back! -Kyle
