Hello CSA Members!
It was so hot out this week and although we got rain it was too late for the strawberry field which seems to be producing tiny tiny berries not worth picking. I managed to get a good batch of microgreens grown in the heat which is a challenge and i’ll be continuing to feature these this year as its one of my best products in popularity and has good value in the share and nutritionally. I hope everyone gets out and enjoys some outdoor activities this week after getting energized with some healthy veggies! The sunsets this time of year make for a great end to long days of work. This week I hope we get some rain as we are feeling the effects of the drought, we are pretty much saving everything that survived for CSA , i’m going to try and get some more things planted for late summer and get a lot more weeds pulled and continue to trim and clip tomatoes which are behind this year but starting to flower.
Romaine Lettuce: Another round of lettuce different from the last three types to keep it interesting romaine is loved for its crispy texture and good flavor
Kale: Kale is a staple of the veggie world here and a great source of protein! This curly kale can be shredded or chopped and used for salads or cooked, our kale this week is the blue lacinato type which chefs prefer the most.
Spicy mix, radish or Broccoli mic-greens: These sweet and nutritionally dense greens are great for your salads sandwiches and on top of anything really but the broccoli is especially good on pasta like mac and cheese or Alfredo. The type you receive will be random this week
Radish Microgreens: this week we will have these spicy radish greens to go in large shares as a double crop along with the other micros and surprisingly good on tacos!
Scallions: Fresh and tall green onions are sweet and mild enough to eat raw or minced up fresh on top of your dishes! These also go well with all the other veggies!
Sorrel: This lemon flavored green is intense in flavor when raw but great when cooked or added to pasta dishes, this one may take some creativity but hopefully you will give it a chance and look up a good recipe as its a very healthy vibrant green.
I hope everyone has a good week and enjoys all the official beginning of summer. I am expecting beets, and kohlrabi to be ready soon for shares… should be next week for both of these crops! Thank you.
