CSA Box — Week 12

Roots Down Basic Share — Week 12

Weel 12 -- Roots Down CSA Box

What’s in the Box:

Cantaloupe, rainbow cherry mix, basil, purple bell pepper, hot pepper (Serrano, Jalapeno, or red cayenne), hot wax pepper/banana pepper, red cabbage, leek, cucumber, garlic,  heirloom tomato, and summer squash.

RECIPE for the week — Summer Squash Soup

We will be having our first on farm event August 28th — A harvest potluck and bonfire!  Click here for more information.

What’s Going on at the Farm:

This week we harvested cantaloupe which turned out amazing, they were grown in a hoop house and are extremely sweet and very close to or at peak ripeness.  Heirloom tomatoes may or may not make the box again as well as we are having some problems with late blight in a low lying area and need to clean those plants out this week.  This week I plowed in the cabbage field, early potato field, and removed the summer squash and zucchini beds.  Also noted was the first color change showing up in peppers this week.  Still looking at a week or two for green beans, sweet peppers and onions coming soon as well.

I am really impressed with the variety and quality of our farm share! All of the veggies are delicious. The leafy head of cabbage was so beautiful. I stir fried patty pan and summer squash with red onions, fresh garlic and just added a little soy sauce. Lots a great fresh flavors. 🙂

  2. I’ve been doing the same, but w/ basil and parm. cheese instead of the soy sauce. So good!
