What’s In The Box: Summer squash and Zucchini, Fennel, Kale, Kohlrabi, Chioggia beets, and Savoy Cabbage.
The above listing is a best guess and we reserve the right to change the items listed if we run into an unexpected issue during harvest and packaging work.
What’s Going on at the Farm:
Beet greens are a tasty green which can be cooked and used as you would chard or spinach. They are rich in vitamins and minerals with a rich taste. Fennel can be used in it’s entirety as well including the fronds although the best part is the crunchy bulb and stalks.
This week on the farm we were tying and suckering all the tomatoes. We also planted and irrigated winter squash transplants and plowed in the peas and broccoli beds. Celeriac and tomatillo was also transplanted and weeds are still being pulled at a steady rate. We also put some basil and more tomato in the hoop house. This week more direct seeding remains to be done but opening up the fields of broccoli and peas was a necessity first to give us the room for seeding and to let the plant matter break down in the soil for a while.
